Time is Running Out | Career Angles
Maybe it’s because I’ve gotten old (I turn 70 later this year) but when I was watching an interview with Serena Williams talking about her first-round victory in the U.S. Open, it is interesting to hear her say that time was running out for her.
She’s 38 years old in a very competitive sport. She’s won many major events.
But she’s noticed something about yourself.
Maybe, it’s harder for her to train now that she has a young daughter and husband.
Maybe it’s divided attention between our desire to be home and her desire to be on the court.
I have no idea what it is for her but she knows her time is running out just as I know mine is.
Most of us go through life, most of us go through our careers as though our time is infinite. Nothing could be further from the truth.
It’s one of the reasons we pretend to live life immortal. It’s just too painful to face the obvious fact that our time is running out.
As you look at your career, as you look at your life, is this really what you want to be doing? Is this the way you want to be living your life?
If you’re like most people I know, it isn’t. You are doing things programmatically, rather than by choice.
