Surprise! | Career Angles

I act as though I believe I know what is going on. I create a structure to my worldview and think I know what is going to happen.

Then years like 2020 come along that should blow a huge hole in the way that I think.

Yet I keep moseying along trying to create sense out of the incomprehensible and continue to be surprised by how events don’t sort themselves out the where think they will.

I know professionally how this happens to many people.

They think they know what someone else is thinking and, thus, what they will do.

They have a confirmation bias based upon previous times they were right and forget about all the times they were wrong.

We/I am genuinely shocked when our assumptions are proven wrong.

Yet I/we continue to do the same thing over and over with the same results.

The lies we tell ourselves about our abilities, our understanding of events, and so much more are stunning.

Although I believe I may be right far more than I am wrong, I am wrong a heck of a lot.

I suspect the same is true of you, too.

We can’t predict the future. I can’t predict the future.
