Choice: an act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities.
Sacrifice: a: destruction or surrender of something for the sake of something else
b: something given up or lost
Choice involves making a decision between alternatives. It is value neutral. There is no pain. There is no suffering. It is simply a decision.
Sacrifice is also a choice but one that has something extra to it.
There is a giving up that occurs that is painful. It is not value neutral. There is an emotional component on top of the choice.
When you tell people you are making a sacrifice, you are signaling a burden.
If it’s the right thing to do, even when it is a hard thing to do, make it a choice or decision.
If there is too much loss or pain to it, don’t do it.
“I’m losing so much money on this.”
“It hurts me to do this.”
“I wish I didn’t have to.”
All our signals of a sacrifice because of the tone to the remark.
Things don’t have to be sacrifices.
They can be choices.
Being nice is a choice.
