No BS Career Advice: January 6, 2025

Since my last issue, I’ve been spending time nursing my wife back to health after open heart surgery to replace a valve. She has been miserable both in the hospital and since coming home a week later, not knowing quite what she wants and whatever it is, it seems to not be quite right. I’ve had help from members of her family which has been sooooooo helpful. As one said, “I’m here to save your marriage because, after weeks of this, it is so hard to not be miserable!”

As someone who was a successful recruiter for many years to now coaching people globally with their job search, the trend I’ve seen completely ignored by US media has been the number of people who are #opentowork on LinkedIn. For more than two years, beginning with layoffs at Facebook until now, my feed has been filled with people who are using that hashtag and the green frame around their profile picture.
