Magnificent | Career Angles

One of my favorite words in the English language is, “magnificent.” When you look up the definition in the dictionary (okay, you Google the definition in the dictionary), you find:

1. impressively beautiful, elaborate, or extravagant; striking.

“a dramatic landscape of magnificent mountains”

2. very good; excellent.

The word that leaps out of the page to me is the word, “striking.” When I think of that word, I stop in my tracks. I have to look. My eye has been caught and I can’t look away.

There is very little work that we do that offers us the opportunity for it to be striking.

Most of the time, work is good, excellent, good enough, okay.

Very little of it is magnificent.

What makes work magnificent?

Often, it is your commitment to it that makes the difference. It requires that you see something in it that no one else does and commit yourself to bring it to light and allowing it to flourish.

It is like love for someone or something that so many people have walked by and not seeing the special in them or it.

But you did.

You saw that quality within them that was striking to you.
