It Didn’t Used to Be This Hard!

Whether said by a job hunter expressing frustration over their difficulty with landing a new job or someone lamenting their frustration with someone at work, “It didn’t used to be this hard,” is a way pf attributing blame to others for needing to expend effort that you never used to have to put out.

When you are a beginner, the pay is lower and so are the expectations. As you develop more experience, your salary (usually) goes up and so do the demands and expectations. That’s true both at your work and in a job search.

If you are going to get the bucks, you can’t just be doing the same thing you did as a beginner. If you want to get to the top, you have to put in effort, compete and win more than you lose. With the increased money comes increased responsibility and expectations.
