Despite my best efforts, I work in relative anonymity. I created and host the number one podcast in my category in iTunes with more than 2100 episodes over more than ten years. I’ve written eight books and have almost 7000 videos on YouTube. My name is not one that the world knows.

I resonate with people who work anonymously and try to convey ideas. Most of the time, their ideas are ignored, and often so are they.

Then there are the magic moments where a person’s time has come, where the work of…

Throwback Thursday.

We share old photos.

We love that moment from the past and open ourselves up to being teased for what we look like then.

He posted the photo of the time more than 50 years ago.

His hair was long.

His mood was happy.

It’s how he lived his life every day.

Fun was important.

One of his friends commented, “There is nothing quite like being young and having fun!”

To which I commented, “old and having fun is pretty damn good, too!”

This brings us to the career angle for…

Here are 4 easy to implement ways to be more inclusive of LGBTQ+ job applicants and employees. They are by no means all-encompassing. They are a simple starting place. Please add your suggestions in the comments area.

TRANSCRIPT:

To be more inclusive, the LBGTQ+ potential hires and employees only take a few steps. Number one, when you’re interviewing, refer to the other person, the family, as husband, wife or spouse, regardless of gender. That becomes a signal of inclusiveness. Number two is proactively start correcting the language of your team, so that they…

I took a break to watch Coach Mike Krzyzewski speak at his official retirement announcement at Duke University.

If you don’t know who Coach K is, I’ll just say that he spent the past 35+ years as the basketball coach at Duke University, is 12 a time national coach of the year, and led the US Olympic teams in basketball.

Of the players who played for Coach K, 67 were drafted into the NBA, 41 were first round draft picks, and 28 were lottery picks (early draft choices in the first round).

When…

There is a difference between winners and losers. It doesn’t mean someone is a winner all the time or a loser all the time. It refers to the feeling that we carry ourselves with, that we define ourselves by, and the differences between the two.

TRANSCRIPT

Winners find the way to win. Losers, on the other hand, find the way to lose. One of the ways that winners find the way to win is they know losers will find a way to lose.

People sometimes offer simplistic advice. There are other parts of your body you have to pay attention to, too.

TRANSCRIPT:

People tell you to go with your gut. But what about your head? And what about your heart? Wisdom comes when you know which one to pay attention to. And don’t sell yourself short. You know what to do.

I am old enough to remember reading an article in the Sunday New York Times business section about how Pacific Telesis, one of the regional Bell operating companies, was experimenting with new technology. The technology wanted to allow people to receive phone calls on the go no matter where they were and thus not have to be tethered to a location to make or receive calls.

What they were describing in this article were mobile phones. Yes, I remember when we did not have mobile phones. Not even clamshell phones. Not even brick…

“Some things are worth fighting for
Some feelings never die
I’m not askin’ for another chance
I just wanna know why

There’s no easy way out
There’s no shortcut home
There’s no easy way out
Givin’ in can’t be wrong”

~Robert M Tepper

I’m not going to go through the plotline of the movie or the relevance of the song to it. It was initially written by a man going through a divorce and feeling challenged to fight rather than give in to suicidal feelings.

However, being expansive about it, many tap into…

In this video, Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter offers three questions to ask in your interviews and what you should be looking for in the answers.

BTW, I recorded this video when I still did recruiting. I now coach people and organizations about job search, hiring more effectively, managing and leading as well as workplace-related issues.

At the time I recorded this, I also did not know how to hold my phone for YouTube.
